Celebs and Style

A style note from the Serpentine Summer Party By Tiffany Liew - Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Annually, the Serpentine Gallery's annual Summer Party is held where the who's who in the UK's rich and famous turn up primped and styled.  Marking the gallery's 40th anniversary, celebrities and designers including Matthew Williamson, Vivienne Westwood and Stella McCartney.  Laurent Perrier Champagne was to be had and  there was even a surprise performance from Dizzee Rascall.

One style note that I took away from the party were the fact that both Caroline Sieber (left) and Julia Restoin Roitfeld (right) both wore lace, but in very different ways.  Caroline opted for a more sheer, playfully off-shouldered dress in a lighter palette, whereas Julia's slitted long black dress had a slightly more sophisticated edge.  As you can see by these two ladies alone, contrary to popular belief lace is in fact such as a wearable, versatile fabric that can be brought from day to night.  For a more casual look, lace teams well with leather jackets and even denim, though for night all you need is a beautiful necklace or two to frame the top half of your body.

I, for one thing, think that lace pieces certainly can be investments because of their versatility.  They can look sexy, playful, daring and even conservative! When picking them, just remember to choose laces with the right transparency, elasticity and cut for you, so that you'll be as comfortably breathable from summer right through to layering for winter.

At the moment we have some beautiful lace pieces for the ladies, and in particular, my eyes seem to be set on the Dolce & Gabbana lace tops with a silk-tie collar.  Even better, it comes in both baby pink and black, so now it's time to pick which mood I'm going to go for.

Trench it Up! By Tiffany Liew - Wednesday, June 23, 2010

So Winter's well under way in Australia, bringing in cooler (and often wet) weather, but never despair!  As shown by the famous above, pretty much anyone can trench it up and pull the look off for any occasion, whether/not there may be rain.

A few great things about the trench:
 - They can be teamed with lots of different shoes, including boots, flats, sandals, pumps, etc.
 - A huge range of trenches are available in different fabrics, including warm wools, satins, light poly-blends and even suedes
 - Trenches are stylish ways to keep warm in winter, and for the brave, can be worn by themselves with stockings as 'trench-dresses'
 - Super versatility (i.e. for formal, casual and work occasions) means that they are virtually investment pieces
 - Particularly when belted or cinched at the waist, trenches are very flattering

Personally, I prefer trenches with wide lapels and thinner belts because their volume helps balance out body shapes to give the illusion of a smaller waist.  Thinner belts at the waist (about two inches above your belly button) are usually the most flattering of places to belt, though you can also do without belts at all!

At the moment, trenches and coats are available on sale at Voi at up to 75% off RRP.  We have quite a few Armani and D&G trenches that are on sale, along with other brands including Blumarine.  Sale stock is strictly limited, so to trench it up, hurry in-store ASAP to grab those investment pieces that really are worth it!

A Quick Look at Dolce & Gabbana [FW10] By Tiffany Liew - Monday, June 14, 2010

For those of you who haven't checked out Dolce & Gabbana's latest FW10 collection for women, here's a quick pick of a few pieces and looks that struck me.

In the collection, classic Dolce & Gabbana pieces were exhibited with lush velvets, beautiful prints and bold accessories.  To its entirety the Dolce & Gabbana FW10 collection practically meets the demands of a stylishly primped business woman, with many classically tailored office-suited garments that could easily be brought from day to night.  Knits were incorporated into all sorts of pieces, from knee-high boots to skirt suits, making for stylish comfort all day long.

Watch out for our exclusive Dolce & Gabbana sale which will be happening the day after our Winter Fashion Party, both events being held at the Ivy (opposite Wynyard Station on George St, Sydney).  The date is to be confirmed, so watch this space!

2010 Winter Trend By Scindya Datt - Thursday, May 20, 2010

Fur has played such a dominant part in 2010 winter runways.  Incorporating a luxurious and glamorous look with its practicality of keeping you warm, the reappearance of fur is a sure fire fashion trend for 2010.

Currently, Voi is stocking an extensive range of fur coats in store.  Coloured or neutral, long or mid length there is definitely something for everyone.  Each one of our coats has some form of detailing, making them more special than your average fur coat.  There are hand painted images on cuffs, beading and knitted furs just to highlight a few.  You may think that being a fur coat, it would have some weight to it.  However most of our pieces are lightweight and incredibly comfortable.  Many of coats are also reversible, so you’re really getting two for the price of one!

In addition, if you’re wondering if our Pre-Winter Clearance applies to these babies, you’re in luck.  All fur coats are also up to 70% off the RRP, so get in quick for first choice before they all disappear!

Armani Goes Green By Simon Rawson - Friday, February 26, 2010

Ah Armani! Got the shoes, suit and watch? Complete your look with…

An Armani bicycle! Going green has become more and more fashionable first with Karl Lagerfeld’s mink riding helmet and now with legendary Italian fashion designer branching out into bikes. The new design kicked off with gorgeous models cycling down the runway in Milan.

The time has never been more perfect to be environment friendly while turning heads, with your own stylish cycle. The Emporio Armani bicycles are sporty hybrids made by Bianchi and are making quite a splash among celebs, with a matching pair being gifted to Mr. and Mrs. Cruise.

Suffice it to say, anyone who wants to be “in” as far as fashion is concerned not to mention save heaps on parking and car insurance, should consider buying a bicycle in 2010.

Come down to Voi and take one for a test drive, be quick, we only have one!

Mens 2010 Style Staple By Simon Rawson - Wednesday, February 24, 2010

What can be worn as daywear, eveningwear, outerwear, layered over a t-shirt or topped with a scarf?

The blazer of course! One of the most versatile pieces you can own, which also happens to be the must have item for 2010. The blazer has long been a staple in every style conscious mans wardrobe, and you most likely already have your single buttoned basic black, navy or charcoal right? If not, make one of these timely choices your first endeavor into the vast world of blazers.

If however, you have long been a fan of 2010’s hottest trend and have your basics firmly planted in your closet, this may just be the year to try something a bit different. With so many new beautiful designs and patterns to choose from, you will have a tough decision on your hands.

Here are some of my favorites below.

Now that we have colors and style out of the way, lets dive into fit. Fit is one of, if not thee most important aspect of your new blazer. There may be an urge to impress the sales lady by purchasing a bigger size however, you won’t be impressing anyone if your swimming in what may appear to be your dads jacket. Bringing us to rule number 1, always make sure you have the right size. If you are in between sizes, go for the larger size and have it professionally tailored. The second most important aspect of fit is the sleeve length. The sleeve should land somewhere between the wrist bone and the 2nd to 3rd joint on your thumb. Personally I think if you have a great watch, the sleeve should land just at the wrist. Why have it, if no one can see it right?

Australian cult fashion accessories brand Mimco has joined forces with Barbie to celebrate her 50th birthday in style down under. As the only Australian collaboration, Mimco brought to life a range of pretty-in-pink items for their Barbie loves Mimco range just for Barbie fanatics.

“Our style attitude at Mimco is to contrast your minimal with your maximal – so we love the idea of teaming Barbie glam with luxury casual,” said Mimco’s creative director Cathryn Wills recently.

Even Australian Idol presenter and local rock chick, Ricki-Lee Coulter leaped at the chance to recently don pieces from the new range, admitting she was a Barbie junkie as a child. And who wasn’t I remember spending a good portion of my young years wanting to grow up to be just like Barbie. Barbie is iconic! The female equivalent of G.I Joe, in which every woman can no doubt relate to her childhood. It is all very exciting to be able to bring a bit of your child hood back, especially when it looks so good.

Drenched in pink and dripping with diamantes, the Barbie loves Mimco range has all your fashion accessory needs covered with jewelry, hair accessories, clutches, pouches, key rings, tote bags and shoes. But the lust-have item is the limited edition Barbie loves Mimco lady hobo. With a run of only 20, this limited edition handbag will set back some fortunate fashionistas AUD$799.

A sure hit, are the Barbie loves Mimco satin ballet flats (pictured above) for $249 and the to pretty to resist, Barbie loves Mimco overblown floral satin case for $159.

The collection hits stores and online this month on November 9, 2009.
