Barbie Celebrates her 50th with accessories to die for! By Brittany West - Wednesday, November 04, 2009

Australian cult fashion accessories brand Mimco has joined forces with Barbie to celebrate her 50th birthday in style down under. As the only Australian collaboration, Mimco brought to life a range of pretty-in-pink items for their Barbie loves Mimco range just for Barbie fanatics.

“Our style attitude at Mimco is to contrast your minimal with your maximal – so we love the idea of teaming Barbie glam with luxury casual,” said Mimco’s creative director Cathryn Wills recently.

Even Australian Idol presenter and local rock chick, Ricki-Lee Coulter leaped at the chance to recently don pieces from the new range, admitting she was a Barbie junkie as a child. And who wasn’t I remember spending a good portion of my young years wanting to grow up to be just like Barbie. Barbie is iconic! The female equivalent of G.I Joe, in which every woman can no doubt relate to her childhood. It is all very exciting to be able to bring a bit of your child hood back, especially when it looks so good.

Drenched in pink and dripping with diamantes, the Barbie loves Mimco range has all your fashion accessory needs covered with jewelry, hair accessories, clutches, pouches, key rings, tote bags and shoes. But the lust-have item is the limited edition Barbie loves Mimco lady hobo. With a run of only 20, this limited edition handbag will set back some fortunate fashionistas AUD$799.

A sure hit, are the Barbie loves Mimco satin ballet flats (pictured above) for $249 and the to pretty to resist, Barbie loves Mimco overblown floral satin case for $159.

The collection hits stores and online this month on November 9, 2009.

Dazzle’em in Statement Sparkles… By Brittany West - Wednesday, November 04, 2009

Want to be the life of the party? Forget about glitzy accessories, let your jacket steal the show and shine around the clock with these statement pieces.

Tuxedo Jackets recently re emerged and look set to be sticking around for another season, with Kate Moss wearing her YSL one three days in a row. But thanks to inspiration from Derek Lam they've been given a bit of a sparkly twist - sequins.

How fun are they?! I've been getting lots of love (and wear) out of mine, and even though sequins aren't news, they are Fab. These disco-inducing jackets are the perfect way to pick up an otherwise, let's face it, dull piece. Tuxedos are a good way to an edge to your fave dress but they are pretty much restricted to black or grey which can be a bit boring time after time.

The celebrity world agree with us and everyone from Hollywood's Rachel Bilson and Taylor Momsen to Lily Cole and Alesha Dixon have been wearing sparkly tuxes.

The same rules as with regular tuxedos apply, longer lengths for hip-conscious girls and single-breasted jackets such as Rihanna's sunny show stopper are more flattering than double-breasted.

Black and silver sequins are great for a classic look but if you want something a little more colorful go for a midnight blue shade or gold. These will work over lots of other pieces and add something special to an outfit.
