image019This simple ‘STAND UP and MOVE more often health tip’ is one to do when you’re back at work this week. Set your alarm (on computer or mobile) to go off every 30-40 minutes and stand up from what you are doing. Try taking a lap around the office, up the fire stairs or around the block. Out of the 12-16hrs ‘awake time’ each day how many of those hours do you spend sitting? At the desk, in front of the TV, at the dining table, commuting?? An Australian study conducted on over 200,000 participants, from 2006 to 2008 concluded sitting for prolonged periods of time, independent of physical activity (e.g.30 min daily walk), had “possible associations with increased risk of obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer” (2012, American Medical Association pp494). So, STAND UP and MOVE more often.
